Problem & fix

Oil stains on the driveway or garage floor

Dark, greasy spots on concrete where cars park.

Why oil stains are stubborn

Concrete is porous. Oil soaks in, and the longer it sits, the deeper it goes. Water alone can’t lift it.

For fresh spills

  1. Cover the spill with cat litter or sawdust right away to soak up as much as possible.
  2. Sweep it up after a few hours.
  3. Scrub the spot with a degreaser and a stiff brush, then rinse.

For older stains

Older stains need a stronger degreaser left to sit, then hot water and a surface cleaner. Our garage and driveway pressure cleaning uses this approach.

Setting expectations

Most stains fade a lot. Very old stains that have soaked deep into the concrete may leave a light shadow.

Keep stains from coming back

  • Fix the leak at the source.
  • Use a drip mat where you park.
  • Seal the driveway so future spills sit on top and wipe up more easily.
